Not for profit charity fundraising club nights put on by volunteers in and around Oxted, Surrey. Our aim is to put on some great nights locally to raise money for some really worthy charities and have fun in the process. With everyone volunteering their time for free and the club lighting and sound system itself provided for free, our only costs are the hall, insurance and a few bits and bobs to help make the night a success.
The idea for Freak Out was originally inspired by the handinhandcharity.org.uk group over the other side of the Downs around Warlingham, who have had great success in putting on charity disco based events. Oxted has a really thriving live music scene these days (oxted-live.co.uk), but very little outside of private parties in the way of good disco’s. When we were all young our terrible dancing skills and raw chat up technique was tentatively honed through disco’s put on by local groups and we fancied the idea of trying to put on some similar events again now.
Times have moved on – the word disco is viewed as quite sad by some age groups now, but the sound and lighting technology of today has made putting on really good nightclub themed events possible in carefully selected venues. There’s more red tape and event costs to deal with and sadly a bit more anti teenager sentiment to have to try and work through, but hey good things are rarely easy! We want to try and re-create a little bit of what we feel has become somewhat lost for younger teenagers today by putting on carefully managed events. We can only put on these events if we have the support of local venues and residents and help from enough volunteers on the night to ensure they run smoothly. If you can spare any time to help at an event, or could help promote events please contact us.
Our Supporters
Huge thanks to the guys at EM10 Express for supporting our first event by offering to sell the tickets.
Massive thanks to the 1st Oxted Scouts committee for agreeing to let us use the scout hut. Many local venues don't want under 17's using their space – thanks to the Scouts committee for supporting Oxted's teenagers.
